Colorado First Responders Implement VisionTEK, Inc. Solution to Address Public Safety and Homeland Security InitiativesSUPERIOR, CO--(BUSINESS WIRE)—April 1, 2003—VisionTEK, Inc. announced today the initial installation of UNITY™ in Douglas County. UNITY, VisionTEK’s new interoperability system, allows first responders to communicate and share data across jurisdictional boundaries. VisionTEK, one of the nation’s leading providers of mobile data software for public safety, will be providing UNITY to numerous Colorado agencies in the Denver Metropolitan area.
"UNITY will immediately impact the effectiveness of public safety," said Frank Traylor, President and CEO of VisionTEK. "Not only will UNITY provide first responders with a tool for day-to-day use, but it will also be a crucial component of emergency response and homeland security. The goal of our Colorado implementation is to demonstrate UNITY’s ability to solve the current interoperability challenges of public safety communication and data sharing."
The UNITY system is designed to enable data interoperability between existing public safety agencies. It provides public safety agencies the ability to share real-time information within, or across, jurisdictional boundaries. With UNITY, information can be distributed through a wireless system to one or many users, based on an individual’s first responder role, allowing agencies to transmit data to first responders in an entire county, state, or even the nation. In addition, UNITY can provide authorized users with centralized access for local, state, and federal databases, including access to the National Crime Information Center.
"We’re excited about participating in the UNITY implementation," said Division Chief Mike Coleman, from Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. "One of the key success factors in effective public safety is the ability to connect the right people with the right information. UNITY will provide us with instantaneous messaging capabilities which should result in faster and safer decision making."
The UNITY implementation with Douglas County Sheriff, Cunningham Fire, Boulder County Sheriff, Lafayette Police, Longmont Police and the University of Colorado Boulder Police will provide VisionTEK with critical feedback on the system prior to planned statewide and national rollouts.
