VisionTEK, Inc. Homeland Security Solution is Adopted by Five Additional Colorado Agencies SUPERIOR, CO—November 5, 2003—VisionTEK, Inc. announced the rollout of its UNITY® communications interoperability solution with five additional Colorado public safety agencies. The addition of these agencies to the Colorado consortium of UNITY users will help first responders overcome interoperability barriers posed by existing radio and computer network systems, improve dayto- day communications, and improve coordinated responses to emergency situations.
The agencies installing UNITY during November include: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Longmont Police Department, Louisville Police Department, Lafayette Police Department, and the University of Colorado at Boulder Police Department. These organizations join the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, an early adopter that installed the system in April 2003.
UNITY allows public safety agencies to securely exchange text messages, pictures, and other types of files in real-time. The system also provides the ability to dynamically create response groups for emergency situations. These features are critical in numerous scenarios, allowing responders to obtain an accurate assessment and view of a situation prior to and during an incident. For example, in the case of an unplanned chemical release, experts can instantly analyze pictures, maps, and descriptions of the scene. A proper response team can then be assembled, and a tactical plan can efficiently be formulated and distributed.
“UNITY provides public safety agencies with a secure, reliable communications tool that helps emergency responders do their jobs more safely, efficiently, and intelligently,” says Frank Traylor, President and CEO of VisionTEK. “The interest agencies in Colorado have shown in this solution illustrates how imperative multi-jurisdictional communication has become.”
With UNITY, information can be distributed through a wireless system to one or many users, based on individuals, groups, roles, or incidents. Unlike many other communication mediums, UNITY is unique in that it provides a level of security that ensures sensitive data transmissions are not compromised.
