The user interface for receiving messages is the Inbox.  Messages in the inbox have visual indicators telling the user whether they have been read yet (envelop with flap down indicates new, flap up indicates it has been read), if there are attachments (paper clip), who sent the message, the subject of the message (Amber Alert), and the date and time the message was sent.
